A new trend in anti-aging products is quickly gaining speed in the clean beauty world. Retinol is rated a 9 on the EWG scale so most brands are starting to make the switch to something safer while providing similar benefits.

So let’s get into the good stuff. Could there really be an ingredient that works just as well as retinol without the negative side effects???

Bakuchiol has been used in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic skincare remedies for centuries. It is Native to India and derived from seeds of the plant Psoralea corylifolia.
This plant extract offers the same skin benefits of Retinol without the negative side effects. Bakuchiol has been shown to have anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties as well making it a power house ingredient for mature skin!
Bakuchiol functions similar to retinol promoting cell turnover to reveal more youthful, radiant looking skin. It helps diminish the look of fine lines, wrinkles,and overall photo damage while tightening and toning the skin. It is non-irritating and doesn’t cause sun sensitivities.
While Bakuchiol was first used in skincare in the 1970’s, it is just starting to blow up in the beauty world now as more and more look for safer, better, cleaner skincare products without irritation.
Since Bakuchiol still promotes cell turnover therefore speeding up the process, it is still recommended to wait until your 40’s to start using it. As mentioned in my post about Retinol, our cells turnover about 50 times and that’s it. That is how we age. So the sooner you start promoting those cells to turnover, the quicker your skin will start to age by the time you hit your 50’s. By waiting, you can maintain more youthful looking skin much longer.
